UK's head of cyber security says hackers breaching defence systems should be rewarded

London, May 4 (ANI): UK's military head of cyber security has said that hackers who broke defence systems and then showed how they did it should be rewarded.

According to The Telegraph, Major General Jonathan Shaw said that such a thought was a kind of 'wacky idea we need to bring in' to improve cyber defences.

Shaw admitted that hackers had managed to breach some of the top-secret systems within the Ministry of Defence.

He said that there could have been more successful cyber attacks, which the MoD did not know about.

Shaw said the Ministry of Defence also needed to involve "kids on the street" to help stay ahead of the latest tricks and tactics in cyberspace.

Major General Shaw said the number of attacks on the systems was increasing and "the pace of change is unrelenting".

He added that UK was developing its own cyber-weapons to give commanders a "golf bag" of choices.

However, he insisted cyber weapons would complement rather than replace the conventional arsenal. (ANI)
