Malaysian Hindu devotees take part in Chitraparuvam fest

   May 6, 5:22 pm

Kuala Lumpur, May 6 (ANI): Hundreds of Hindu devotees in Malaysia turned up at the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple to celebrate the annual Chitraparuvam Festival.

The festival is also known as Chithirai Pournami, the Star reports.

Prayers were conducted at the temple before devotees brought the deity's statue onto a chariot.

The chariot was pulled by two bulls and passed through Lebuh Chulia, Lebuh Victoria, Jalan Magazine, Jalan Datuk Keramat and Jalan Utama before arriving at the hilltop temple at around 5am yesterday.

Many devotees walked barefoot following the chariot that carried the statue of Lord Muruga to Sri Bala Thandayuthapani Hilltop Temple at Waterfall Road.

Hindu Mahajana Sangam chairman M. Nelamegam said the festival celebrated the first full moon after the Tamil New Year, which is in the month of Chithirai, which usually begins in mid-April. (ANI)
