Francois Hollande's lover to be his 'companion', not wife

   May 8, 5:42 pm

Washington, May 8 (ANI): President-elect Francois Hollande and his domestic partner, journalist Valerie Trierweiler have been living together since 2007 but both of them do not plan to get married in the near future.

Hollande and Trierweiler have maintained that they won't rush into marriage and she insists on being called his " companion", CBS News reported.

This implies that Trierweiler cannot technically be referred to as France's First Lady.

Sacre bleu! A domestic arrangement that is inconceivable by U.S. presidential standards is perfectly normal in France, said CBS Radio correspondent Elaine Cobbe, from Paris.

Most French people have no qualms about the couple not being married.

Hollande met Valerie Trierweiler in 2006. A year later, he parted ways with his partner of 30 years and mother of his four children, Segolene Royal, to be with her. (ANI)
