Myanmar parliament speaker urges people to reveal desire, need

Yangon, June 3 (Xinhua-ANI): Speaker of Myanmar's House of Representatives U Shwe Mann has urged people to effectively enjoy their rights by revealing their desire and need to respective parliament representatives, official media reported Sunday.

Speaking to voters in Nay Pyi Taw's Tatkon township Saturday, Shwe Mann said the country is undertaking a fast track reform, which needs involvement of the people, reported the New Light of Myanmar.

He stressed the importance for the people to enjoy their rights appropriately, saying that" the elected Hluttaw (parliament) representatives are fulfilling desire and need of the people with the claim that the people's voice is the Hluttaw's voice, the people's desire is the Hluttaw's desire and the people's need is the Hluttaw's undertaking".

Shwe Mann called on the people, representatives and civil servants to serve their duties with a sense of loyalty, responsibility and benevolence, urging the representatives to always stand by the people.

Myanmar claimed that it is entering into a "second-step strategic reform", calling for more effectively implementation of national and regional development tasks in the reform process.

Since taking office in March 2011, the new civilian government has been undertaking a series of reform covering national solidarity, peace and stability, security of the people, international cooperation and the introduction of a clean government with good governance in order to reinforce multi-party democratic system.

Myanmar held parliamentary by-elections on April 1 to fill some 45 open seats and the third session of the parliament came to a close after Aung San Suu Kyi and her party's parliament representatives were sworn into office on May 2. (Xinhua-ANI)
