Police seize 20 kg of heroin, arrest 5 after smashing Sydney-based heroin syndicate

Sydney, June 7 (Xinhua-ANI): Five people have been arrested after police smashed a Sydney-based heroin syndicate, the New South Wales Police said on Thursday.

About 20 kilograms of heroin were seized after Australian Customs and Border Protection and the Australian Federal Police intercepted a shipping container from Thailand, police said.

In side the container, Customs officers found the heroin wrapped in newspaper inside sports bags that had been concealed in two separate boxes.

Police searched seven properties at Sydney's west and southwest and arrested five alleged members of the drug syndicate in Sydney on Wednesday.

During the raids police seized prohibited firearms, drugs, ammunition and cash. (Xinhua-ANI)
