Obama's 'same sex marriage' stance hasn't hurt him politically, poll finds

   Jun 23, 4:03 pm

Washington, June 23 (ANI): US President Barack Obama's support for same-sex marriage may not hurt him politically, a poll has revealed.

According to an Associated Press-GfK survey, Obama's last month announcement over gay marriage hasn't really changed views of voters about the way the president handles social issues, as 52 percent said they backed Obama for handling issues like abortion and same-sex marriage, while 36 percent sided with presumptive GOP nominee Mitt Romney.

The poll results also showed that since Obama changed his views on same-sex marriage, more Democrats, 41 percent, now strongly approve of the president's handling of the issue compared to 26 percent who said so last August, while more Republicans, 53 percent, now strongly disapprove of him handling of the issue as compared to 45 percent last August, CBS News reported.

The poll figures also showed that since last August, views of Americans on same-sex marriage have not really changed, with 42 percent of Americans opposing the issue and 40 percent in support of it. Last August, 45 percent opposed same-sex marriage while 42 percent favored it. (ANI)
