RFK's wife Mary had drugs not alcohol before hanging herself

New York, July 7 (ANI): The estranged wife of JFK's nephew Robert Francis Kennedy, Jr, Mary had at least three anti-depressants in her system when she committed suicide, a Westchester County Medical Examiner's autopsy report has revealed.

A toxicology test also concluded that Mary- a recovering alcoholic - had no booze in her blood when she hanged herself in a barn behind her Bedford house in May.

Levels of trazodone , venlafaxine and desmethylvenlafaxine - all prescribed as anti-depressants had been found in her blood, the New York Daily News reported.

The coroner determined that she had died from asphyxia due to hanging, which was supported by the injuries to her neck.

According to the autopsy report, her body was received by the M.E.'s office with "a beige rope around the neck measuring 9/16 inch in diameter" and "the knot present on this rope is lying on her back with 9 loops."

Mary was found dead in the middle of a bitter divorce with her ex, Bobby, a prominent environmentalist and son of former Sen. Robert F. Kennedy.

The couple who married in 1994 had been fighting for the custody of their four children.

Friends have said that the May 2010 divorce filing, along with her arrest for drunken driving three days later, started a tragic downward spiral for her. (ANI)
