Pak IB minister claims was misquoted on 'not to write Swiss letter' statement

Islamabad, July 13 (ANI): Pakistan's Minister for Information and Broadcasting has claimed that he had never said the government would not write to the Swiss authorities, adding that the government's stance has been that writing the letter was unconstitutional.

Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira said he was misquoted by a section of the media on his statement on the issue of writing a letter to the Swiss, reports The Dawn.

"I never said that the party's stance was against writing the letter. I had said that the federal cabinet would decide on the issue," Kaira was quoted, as saying.

The Supreme Court on July 12 ruled that Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf must write to Swiss authorities for the reopening of cases against Asif Ali Zardari.

The Supreme Court had on June 19 dismissed Yousuf Raza Gilani as prime minister after convicting him of contempt in April for refusing to reopen the multi-million-dollar cases against the president, after which Raja Pervez Ashraf was elected as the new prime minister. (ANI)
