NATO soldier killed in blast in S. Afghanistan

Kabul, July 13 (Xinhua-ANI): One NATO soldier was killed in a blast in restive southern Afghanistan, the military alliance confirmed Friday.

"An International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) service member died following an improvised explosive device (IED) attack in southern Afghanistan today." the NATO-led ISAF said in a statement.

The brief statement didn't disclose the nationality of the victim under the ISAF policy.

Troops mainly from the U.S., Britain and Australia have been stationed in the southern region to curb Taliban-linked insurgency.

Currently over 130,000 foreign troops with majority of them Americans have been serving in Afghanistan since the Taliban regime was toppled in late 2001.

A total of 237 foreign soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan so far in 2012. (Xinhua-ANI)
