Washington, July 13 (ANI): President Barack Obama holds a 'significant lead' over Republican contender Mitt Romney among Americans, according to a new poll.

According to a new Pew Research Center Poll, almost 50 percent Americans preferred Obama over Romney at 43 percent.

The Pew research concluded that when it comes to fixing the economy, the top issue of the campaign, "Romney has not seized the advantage. In fact, he has lost ground on this issue over the past month".

Almost 48 percent Americans believe that Obama would be able to fix country's economic problems, while only 42 felt the same for Romney.

The poll also concluded that Obama continued to lead Romney in key battleground states.

In the 12 states considered most competitive, Obama held a seven percentage-point edge, 51 to 44, over Romney, the Pew survey found.

The poll found no overall improvement in Romney's position among Americans over the past two months. (ANI)
