UAE probing US navy firing on Indian fisherman in Dubai waters

Dubai, July 18 (ANI): The United Arab Emirates authorities have said that they along with the American Navy are investigating a US navy vessel's firing on a fishing boat, that killed an Indian fisherman and critically injured three others.

"The UAE's authorities are investigating [the incident]," Dr Tareq Ahmad Al Hidan, political affairs assistant to the Foreign Minister said.

The USNS Rappahannock fired a .50-caliber machine gun on the small fishing boat in the waters off the coast of Jebel Ali.

According to Gulf News, U.S. officials defended the actions of the Rappahannock, saying the small vessel ignored a series of nonlethal warnings.eanwhile, Indian Ambassador to the UAE M.K. Lokesh visited three Indian fishermen on Tuesday evening who were injured in the shooting.

According to the paper, Lokesh said ahead of the visit that he would meet the injured fishermen to offer any sort of assistance they may need. (ANI)
