Pak Anti-Corruption Court issues arrest warrants for business tycoon Malik Riaz, son

Islamabad, July 18 (ANI): An Anti-Corruption court in Pakistan has issued arrest warrants for real estate tycoon Malik Riaz and his son Ali Riaz in a 1,400 kanal land scam.

Special Judge Chaudhry Zafar Iqbal has ordered the anti-corruption department to arrest the two and present them before the court on July 23, reports The Express Tribune.

Last month, the Supreme Court of Pakistan had taken a suo motu notice against chief justice's son Dr Arsalan Iftikhar and Riaz, following media reports that Iftikhar had received between Rs 300 and Rs 400 million from the businessman to influence judicial proceedings.

Riaz had later held a press conference holding a pocket-sized copy of the Holy Quran, unleashing allegations against the chief justice. The court had sent him a contempt of court notice over the press conference. But, the contempt of court law was amended a few days before the Supreme Court had decided to indict Riaz, forcing the apex court to adjourn the indictment hearing.

On Monday, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had also issued fresh notices to Riaz to appear before investigators probing the Arsalan-Riaz case. (ANI)
