Stabbed Indian student thanks Australians for 'help, generosity' in recovering from attack

Sydney, July 19 (ANI): An Indian student, who was left to die after being stabbed in the eye with a screwdriver, has thanked Australians for helping fund and aid his recovery.

According to The Age, Sravan Kumar, 28, still has impaired vision after he was attacked by a teenage thug at a party in 2009.

He said that he is now settled in Melbourne and thanked Australians and the local Indian community for their generosity and support.

"I'm happy to be staying here, I feel safer now and I just want to thank everybody that helped me, I haven't really had a chance to do that," Kumar said.

Kumar earlier this year also became a permanent resident of Australia.

In May 2009, Kumar was in coma, after a drug affected 17-year-old gatecrasher lashed out at him after being asked to leave a party. (ANI)
