Indian cabbie accused of raping woman in Australia gets bail

   Jul 24, 1:14 pm

Sydney, July 24 (ANI): An Indian taxi driver, who was accused of raping a woman in the back seat of his car in Australia, has been granted bail.

According to a report, Jaswinder Singh Mutta, 25, will not be freed from prison until he finds someone to agree to put up a 50,000 dollar surety for him.

According to The Age, Magistrate Charlie Rozencwajg said he would impose strict bail conditions on Mutta to address the risk of him fleeing the country if released.

If Mutta does find someone to pay up his surety and he is released, he will have to live with friends in Shepparton, not work as a taxi driver and report daily to Shepparton Police.

He will also be asked to surrender his passport, not leave Victoria or Australia, not contact witnesses, not leave home from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. local time and not visit Melbourne, unless it is to see his lawyer or go to court, the report said.

Mutta applied for bail after being charged with two counts of rape and one count of indecent assault. (ANI)
