Pak 'relying on insurgents' for strategic depth fearing abandonment by U.S.

   Aug 1, 1:40 pm

Washington, Aug 1 (ANI): U.S. Senator John Kerry has claimed that Pakistan continues to 'hedge its bets and rely' on certain insurgent groups for strategic depth, because the country believed the U.S. will once again abandon Afghanistan, as it did in the early part of the 1980s.

Senator Kerry also acknowledged that Pakistan suffered grievously at the hands of insurgent groups.

"I think we also need to point out that Pakistan has suffered grievously at the hands of Al-Qaeda, the Taliban and affiliated terrorist groups," The News quoted Senator Kerry, as saying.

He said the Obama administration tied work with Pakistan to build a stable economy, adding that Kerry-Lugar bill was part of the same effort.

Senator Kerry said he is pleased with the recent development between U.S. and Pakistan that led to the re-opening of NATO supply routes. (ANI)
