'Women make up 80 percent of my household', says Obama

Washington, Aug.3 (ANI): President Barack Obama has stressed on the role of women in his life and highlighted the problems faced by women.

While addressing a major gathering of women bloggers, Obama said that, in a way, 80 percent of his household consisted of women.

"Women are not a monolithic bloc, not an interest group. You make up more than half our country and our workforce, not to mention 80 percent my household, if you count my mother-in-law," Politico quoted Obama, as saying.

Obama focused much of his speech on his own relationships with women, and listed the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, education reform and his support for Planned Parenthood , as accomplishments among other issues.

"Any discussion of what women face begins with my life story. My mom, a single mother, put herself through school, and made sure my sister and I earned our education too. My grandmother worked her way up from secretary to vice president of the local bank, even though she hit the glass ceiling," Obama said.

"When Michelle and I got married and had our girls, we wanted to give our all to raise a family and have careers. We often wished we had a machine to be two places at one time. As a father, my highlight was asking my girls about their day," he added. (ANI)
