Adele named Britain's most popular act

London, May 6 (ANI): Adele has topped a poll of Britain's most popular acts in a new survey on May 5, which also happens to be her birthday.

According to figures, an estimated 730,000 fans rated her in the number one position, the Daily Mail reported.

The singer's devotees also spent more than 36 million pounds buying her merchandise and attending her gigs between 2011 and 2012.

It marks another highly successful week for the star, who also saw her album '21' scale new heights.

The record outsold Michael Jackson's 'Thriller' album this week to make it the fifth biggest selling album of all time.

Sales figures from the Official Charts Company show the 'Rolling In The Deep' hitmaker's second album has sold 4,274,300 copies - 500 more than the landmark Michael Jackson album.

In addition, the record is continuing to sell an average of 20,000 copies a week.

Adele, 24, came above a number of other high profile British acts in the new poll by ticket marketplace StubHub.

Take That came in second place with 700,000 fans who voted them as their favourite act - the same amount who also opted for Coldplay in the survey of 16 to 54 year olds.

The Foo Fighters and Pink were placed in joint fourth place in the poll with 400,000 fans each, while Rihanna was supported by 370,000 devotees, making her sixth in the rundown. (ANI)
