Joan Rivers slammed for Princess Diana's death joke

Washington, August 7 (ANI): Comedian Joan Rivers has suffered a backlash from British viewers after she quipped about Princess Diana's death.

The 79-year-old comic artist shocked British viewers on Friday when she made a "tasteless" jibe at the late Royal on a British-themed episode of her late-night E! talk show, 'Fashion Police.'

"If you ever want to go to Paris, fly don't take the tunnel," ABC News quoted her as saying.

The comment was in reference to Diana's death in 1997 when her car crashed in a tunnel during a high-speed car chase.

The usually outspoken comedian was critiquing the Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton, wife of Princess Diana's son William, when she made the joke.

Her comment even shocked fellow hosts, and Brits Kelly Osbourne and Cat Deeley.

Rob Shuter, host of "Naughty but Nice" on AXS Live and friend of Rivers, wasn't surprised by the comedian's Princess Diana dig.

"Joan is not one of those people that censors herself. If she thinks it's funny, she's going to say it," he said.

Rivers, who has made jokes about everyone from Michael Jackson to Whitney Houston, believed that nothing is off limits, he said.

"There are plenty of other subjects to make fun about in a show about fashion. But that was one step too far. Cruel, vicious and disgusting," British viewer Andrew Henry told the Daily Star magazine. (ANI)
