New York, Aug 31(ANI): French Open champion Li Na has been knocked out of the US Open in the first round by Romanian teenager Simona Halep.

Fifth-seeded Li committed 54 unforced errors, 35 more than her World No.53 opponent, to lose the match 6-3, 7-5.

It is Li's second successive opening round exit at the Flushing Meadow, Xinhua reports.

The women's second round of US Open will now be without all three of this year's major champions - the first time that has happened since 1971.
