Flower suffers flashback to Jamaica rout after one-day whitewash in India
Oct 27, 1:20 pm
Kolkata, Oct.27 (ANI): Andy Flower's tenure as coach with England began with the humiliation of seeing his side dismissed for 51 in Jamaica and he says the feeling is similar now after Alastair Cook's team were whitewashed 5-0 by India in the Airtel one-day series. "I was reflecting on a similar feeling after being 51 all out in Jamaica two and a half years ago. If we can use it to start something better in our subcontinent limited-overs batting, some good can come of this," The Telegraph quoted Flower, as saying.Flower was only acting coach at the time and the failure was seen, justifiably, as an aberration. He was duly appointed as team director after the end of the tour. West Indies possessed some talent but they were not masters of their own universe as India are at home, especially in the 50-over format. England's principal failing here has been the batting, which has fallen well short in four of the five games. Flower feels may require some self-examination. "You've got to look at yourself first. I am the head coach so have to look at the way I have prepared the players for this series," Flower said. He added: "But we also have got to look back at selection, some of our training methods and take the lessons from that. We all weren't good enough out here.""But remember this group of players have done a lot of good things. Don't merely judge them on this series. We have to give them a lot of credit for the great things they have done over the last couple of years," he says. (ANI)
