Ex-champion Khan in line to face American boxer Mayweather
Apr 29, 3:55 pm
London, Apr 29 (ANI): Former World Boxing Association and International Boxing Federation Light-Welterweight Champion Amir Khan is in line to fight American boxing star Floyd Mayweather.Khan and Mayweather share the same promotion house, Golden Boy, and a showdown between both is reportedly in on the cards.According to Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer, Khan may face Mayweather if he beats Lamont Peterson to win back the WBA and IBF light-welterweight titles in Las Vegas on May 19.Schaefer claimed that despite Khan's loss to Peterson in December, he is still a potential opponent for Mayweather next year, the Daily Star reports."Assuming all goes well and he wins against Peterson, he then moves up to welterweight. But I am not so sure if the first fight will be against Floyd, because at that weight it may not be the smartest thing to do," Schaefer said." Amir is better than what we saw in most of the last fight with Peterson. His skill level is superior to any fighter with the exception of
Mayweather. He is one of the most talented and skilled fighters but he needs to apply those skills," he added. (ANI)
