Chelsea's Mikel calls on club to concentrate on Cup double
May 4, 5:14 pm
London, May 4(ANI): Chelsea player John Obi Mikel has said the club must put their FA Cup and Champions League final ahead of their Premier league campaign.Chelsea's 2-0 loss to Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday has made it nearly impossible for Roberto Di Matteo's men to make the top four. But midfielder Mikel hopes that can give them the breathing space they need for two cup finals in two weeks."The top four has gone and now the only chance we have to qualify for the Champions League is to win the final in Munich. That is what everyone at
Chelsea wants, the players, supporters and the club. We must concentrate on that," The Sun quoted Mikel, as saying."But first we have to make sure we win the FA Cup final on Saturday. We can't let that opportunity pass," he added. Mikel believes it is essential for the Blues to pick themselves up from Wednesday's failure against the Geordies. He said: "We have been doing really well lately but this was one game where we were below par. We didn't create enough chances. But we have to forget about this game because we have a big final coming up at Wembley.""The manager has been making changes for quite a few of our recent games and before Wednesday it had been going well for us," he added."Against Newcastle it was one of those days. When we played Barcelona last week they had a lot of the ball but couldn't score. That is the way it goes sometimes. Now we have to go back to training and put things right against Liverpool," he said. (ANI)
