Charlotte (North Carolina), May 7 (ANI): Rory McIlroy reclaimed his top spot in world golf rankings despite missing out in a three-way play-off at the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow.

McIlroy was defeated by the American Rickie Fowler but had already done enough to regain the top spot from previous golf no.1 Luke Donald. It's awesome. It's a long wait but well worth it. I've been looking forward to playing with Rory for a long time," The Guardian quoted McIlroy, as saying.

McIlroy, even though his loss to Fowler in a play-off might have predicted differently, gained lead in the world rankings again because of the DA Points. The trio McIlroy, Fowler and Donald finished on 14 under for the tournament. (ANI)
