Mike Hesson resigns as Kenya cricket coach citing security concerns
May 8, 2:42 pm
London, May 8(ANI): Kenya cricket coach Mike Hesson has quit from his position citing security concerns as the reason behind his decision.Hesson's decision to part ways with the Kenya team has given air to the speculation that he might be in contention to become New Zealand's next coach after John Wright refused to extend his contract as their coach. The respected former Otago coach pulled the pin on Kenya just 10 months into his two-year contract, citing security concerns
.Having taken over from West Indian Eldine Baptiste in July last year, Hesson said he was giving up the role 'due to a number of security issues' that have affected his family."It is a very difficult decision we as a family have had to make but sadly we have been directly and indirectly affected by a number of security related incidents in recent weeks and my family has to come first," Stuff.co.nz quoted
Hesson, as saying."I want to stress that this has absolutely nothing to do with the issues relating to my role as national coach and is not cricket related in any way. This is purely a decision about the safety of my family and quality of life," he added."While arrangements are being made for my wife and children to return to New Zealand as soon as possible, I will remain behind to complete any imminent national team engagements," he said.
