Indonesia registers 17 athletes on London Olympics

Jakarta, May 8 (Xinhua-ANI): Seventenn Indonesian athletes have clinched the qualifications to compete at the upcoming Olympic Games in London, local newspaper reported here on Tuesday.Indonesia Gold Program (PRIMA) chief Aslizar Tanjung said on Monday that while 17 athletes had prepared to fight in the Olympics, five others were waiting to find out whether they had made the final cut."Out of the 17 athletes that qualified for the Games, nine of them are badminton players, six from weightlifting, one from fencing and one from archery," he was quoted by the Jakarta Post as saying.Indonesian shuttlers who made it to the list were Simon Santoso and Taufik Hidayat from men's singles, Mohammad Ahsan and Bona Septano from men's doubles, Tontowi Ahmad and Liliyana Natsir from mixed doubles, and Greysia Polli and Meiliana Jauhari from women's doubles.In women's singles, Indonesia will choose between Maria Febe and Adriyanti Firdasari to represent the squad through a wild card system to the Games from July 25 to August 12.
