IPL performance not enough to guarantee White place in Oz T20 team

Sydney, May 24 (ANI): Australian selectors will not be guided by Cameron White's decent performance in the Indian Premier League alone when they pick the team for the ICC World Twenty20.

John Inverarity was asked whether White's revival would be enough to put him in contention for the Twenty20 team, the chief selector said White's recent form at the IPL was strong, but his form during the Australian summer was "terrible".

White made a decent start this week returning from the IPL with 479 runs for the Deccan Chargers at an average of 43.54 and a strike-rate of 149.68.

The selectors won't be guided by statistics alone, as the panel's man in India-Andy Bichel-has been keeping a close eye on the Australian players in the IPL while performing his duties as bowling coach of the Chennai Super Kings.

Asked whether White's IPL form would enhance his quest for a World Twenty20 recall, Bichel told The Age: "It's not for me to say on behalf of all the selectors, but he has performed very well. Whether the timing is right or not [has to be determined].

"An explosive batsman is one of the things we look for and he's shown that, and he's shown consistency, and that is the part that was missing from Cameron's game, so I can impart that to the other selectors and we can sit down and digest it."

White's will have another chance of forcing his way into Australia's Twenty20 team by repeating his performance during a stint with Northamptonshire in England's Twenty20 league. (ANI)
