Webber's Ferrari switch talks gain momentum
May 31, 5:20 pm
Sydney, May 31 (ANI): Rumours of Formula One driver
Mark Webber's switch to Ferrari have gained momentum after he went out of his way to embrace Fernando Alonso, reported to be his next teammate, following emphatic victory in Monaco.Webber, 35, is equal second in the championship and is still in Red Bull's plans, with defending champion Sebastian Vettel
struggling in a season that has produced a different winner in every race, reports News.com.au.Ferrari remains the red-hot favourite to snare Webber to replace Brazilian Felipe Massa, although the Webber has played down the move following a report in Spain earlier this month."Sergio (Perez) was flavour of the month last week for the Ferrari drive; now it's me. I'm focusing 100 per cent on this season and doing the best job for myself and Red Bull Racing," Webber said."We have a whole season ahead. One day there is talk that Jenson (Button) will go to Ferrari, then Sergio, now me. I have not signed anything. The road is still very, very long before you start talking about the future," he added.Webber has made no secret of his desire to drive for Ferrari one day. Red Bull is expected to try to keep Webber, although it is planning for the future with Daniel Ricciardo and Jean-Eric Verne entrenched in its program. With the Monaco win renewing his hunger, Webber has set his sights on the world title."It's timely off the back of a difficult weekend for us in Barcelona," he said. "Up until then, generally, we've got the maximum out of most weekends, and that was the case this weekend. That's all we can keep doing, getting the most out of each weekend," he added. With six different winners from the first six races, Webber said consistency was the key to winning the championship.
