Get ready to burn your pockets to binge on beer at London Olympics!

London, June 1 (ANI): Spectators will be forced to stump up the cash for food and drinks at the London Games, after reports emerged that it will cost people more than seven pounds for a pint of beer, which is more than double the national average.

According to the British Beer and Pub Association, a 330ml bottle of Heineken beer, the only lager that can be served at the Games, will cost 4.20 pounds, which is equivalent to 7.23 pounds a pint and is more than double the national average of 3.17 pounds.

Although regular sports fans are used to paying a premium for food and drink at stadiums, critics say the Games is a national event for the general public who will be forced to stump up the cash for refreshments.

Not just beer, a bottle of water will also reportedly cost 1.60 pounds when in some supermarkets a bottle can be picked up for 25p.ccording to the Daily Mail, spectators will also be charged eight pounds for British favourite cod and chips and 8.50 pounds for lamb curry with rice, which is considerably more than many takeaways, while the nation's favourite drink, tea, will cost upto two pounds a cup and coffee will be for 2.60 pounds.

However, LOCOG CEO Paul Deighton said the prices were 'comparable to other major sporting events' and claimed that a family of four should be able to buy food and drinks for under 40 pounds.

"We have gone to great lengths to find top quality, tasty food that celebrates the best of Britain. We believe that our prices are more than comparable to those found at other major sporting events, which because of their temporary nature are often more expensive than the high street," he said.

LOGOC is gearing up to serve 14 million meals across 40 locations during the Games, where over 1.2 million meals will be served to athletes, comprising 1,300 different dishes. (ANI)
