Sacked coach Marsh thanks Lankan fans for support

Perth, June 3 (ANI): Former Sri Lankan cricket team coach Geoff Marsh, who has initiated legal proceedings against Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) over his sacking, has praised the fans for giving him overwhelming support.

The former Australian opener had signed a two-year contract with SLC last September, but was sacked as head coach three months later.

It was reported last month that Marsh had sent a letter of demand to the SLC over the termination of his contract, which was confirmed by SLC president Upali Dharmadasa.

Dharmadasa maintains that Marsh was paid "whatever that was due to him".

Sri Lankan fans, as well as independent media outlets, have largely been sympathetic to Marsh's plight.

Former Sri Lankan captain Arjuna Ranatunga referred to his sacking as "disgraceful".

"At the moment, everything is with the lawyers so I'm not in a position to talk," Marsh, who is currently in Australia, told Island Cricket.

He added: "I'm very thankful for all the support from everyone in Sri Lanka."

The 53-year-old was replaced with South African Graham Ford, who became Sri Lanka's fourth coach in a year. (ANI)
