Jason Alexander apologizes for 'gay'cricket remark

   Jun 4, 5:25 pm

Washington, June 4 (ANI): Jason Alexander has issued an apology on Twitter after he joked in a TV interview that he regards cricket as a "gay" sport.

The 'Seinfeld' actor made the remarks on CBS' Late Show with Craig Ferguson on Friday and took to Twitter 's TwitLonger to issue a more-than-1,000-word apology.

He wrote that at first he didn't grasp why some might object to the comment, but that subsequent conversations with his gay friends led him to realize his insensitivity.

"For these people [the LGBT community], my building a joke upon the premise I did added to the pejorative stereotype that they are forced to deal with everyday," CBS quoted him as writing.

"It is at the very heart of this whole ugly world of bullying that has been getting rightful and overdue attention in the media. And with my well-intentioned comedy bit, I played right into those hurtful assumptions and diminishments," he said.

He further added that as an actor with many gay friends, he "should know better." (ANI)
