England striker Welbeck hails 'inspirational' Rooney for influencing his game

London, June 14(ANI): England striker Danny Welbeck has paid tribute to teammate Wayne Rooney, saying his Manchester United strike partner has had a major influence on his game.

Welbeck will lead the England line against Sweden on Friday, boosted by his display in the opening 1-1 draw with France.

While Rooney's two-game suspension means he is yet to play a proper role in the tournament, Welbeck explained how his Old Trafford teammate had been a guiding light and inspiration over the past for him.

"When I was growing up, Wayne and Michael Owen were my inspirations. I've had a chance to grow up with them, watching them and training with them, over the past few years," The Daily Mirror quoted Welbeck, as saying.

"I've got some tips off them as well. I've watched them in training to see how they work their stuff and try to take some tips into my own game. Wayne's always there, giving me advice on and off the pitch," he added.

"He comes and talks to me just before the games, at half-time and everything. I'm glad to be around him. So he's just always there, just letting you know what to do in the games, or if he's seen a weakness in the opposition how you can exploit that," he further said. (ANI)
