CSA formalizes process aimed at restructuring South African cricket

Johannesburg, June 16(ANI): Cricket South Africa (CSA) is set to implement the recommendation s of the Nicholson inquiry after it signed an agreement with the government.

CSA's acting president Willie Basson and Alec Moemi, the director-general of sport, signed the document in Pretoria after Basson was given a majority mandate by his board.

"It was important that we formalise the process," Sports24 quoted Basson, as saying in a statement by CSA and the sports ministry.

"Although we are well advanced in carrying out the commitment made to the minister (of sport and recreation) following the publishing of the Nicholson report, it was necessary to formalise the process on the basis of an MOA (memorandum of understanding)," he added.

"If anything, I would say that we are on schedule on the targets we have set ourselves and that is a heartening aspect," he said.

The steering committee tasked with improving CSA's governance processes had already made significant progress.

The next milestone was the appointment of an independent nominations committee to deal with the restructuring of CSA's board.

The Nicholson inquiry recommended the CSA board be reduced in size, comprising a majority of independent, professionally skilled, non-executive directors, following in the footsteps of cricket boards in Australia and New Zealand. (ANI)
