'Returning' Rooney believes England 'good enough' to claim Euro glory

   Jun 18, 1:01 pm

London, June 18(ANI): England striker Wayne Rooney, who is returning to the national squad after a two-match suspension, has said it is good enough to win the ongoing Euro Cup.

"I know everyone doesn't want us to build expectations up, but I firmly believe that we've got the players," The Telegraph quoted Rooney, as saying.

"We're more organised than we've ever been as long as I've been in the squad and we're hard to beat now. If we keep doing that and keep working hard then there's no reason we can't be in with a shout of winning it. e're good enough," he added.

"It helps everyone being English . There are no words lost in translation and we understand what the manager wants from us," he said.

Rooney, who is the vice captain of the team, said England isn't wary of playing Spain in the quarterfinals, which is a possibility, because if they are to win any major tournaments, then beating the best teams is crucial, and that, would in turn ,give them lots of confidence.

"No. You have to play the best teams if you want to win tournaments and how much of a boost would it be for us if we did play them and beat them? How much confidence would that give us?" Rooney said.

"Spain have a completely different style to any other team in the competition. You could see it in the Ireland game, they had 800-900 passes. Sometimes it is probably better to go for goal a lot earlier than they do but that's the way they play. They wear you down," he added. (ANI)
