Michelle Obama to lead U.S. presidential delegation at Olympics opening ceremony

London, June 23(ANI): The first lady of the U.S. Michelle Obama would lead the presidential delegation to the London 2012 Olympics opening ceremony this summer.

President Barack Obama on Friday named Michelle, the U.S. ambassador to the United Kingdom along with selected Olympic medallists in the U.S. delegation.

"This summer I'll be cheering on Team U.S.A. at the Olympic Games in London with this distinguished group of champions who truly represent the best of our country," Politico quoted Michelle Obama, as saying in a White House press release.

"Olympians and Paralympians are true American heroes and role models for all of us, especially our young people. And I know that this delegation will help inspire a generation of young people to get into the Olympic spirit by getting active and healthy so they can reach their fullest potential and reach their dreams," she added.

Michelle Obama will be joined by Ambassador Louis Susman, two-time women's soccer gold medalist Brandi Chastain, women's gymnastics gold medalist Dominique Dawes, Paralympic javelin gold medalist Gabriel Diaz de Leon, men's basketball gold medalist Grant Hill and two-time women's swimming gold medalist Summer Sanders at the Opening Ceremony on July 27.
