Becker believes 'under pressure' Murray unlucky to play in 'top trio Wimbledon winners' era

   Jun 26, 1:47 pm

London, June 26 (ANI): Former tennis champ believes British no. 1 Andy Murray is under huge pressure to play well in the Wimbledon 2012 as he competing against tennis titans like Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal.

"Unfortunately for Andy, he is playing in the same era as Nadal, Federer and Djokovic, who have won Wimbledon nine times between them, and that is putting huge pressure on him to do the same," the Daily Star quoted Becker, as saying. And the reality is that with each passing year that he doesn't crack it, Andy is going to find it more difficult to win the big prizes," he added.

Murray, currently ranked four, who is already dealing with a niggling back injury, finds himself in a half of the draw strewn with potential pitfalls.

"When I look at Murray's game now, I have to say he has all the qualities required to win a Grand Slam - perhaps he needs to get lucky as well," Becker said.

However, the six times Grand Slam winner claimed that Murray has the potential and could make a mark, if he sharpens his tennis skills and 'hits a good percentage of his first serves'.

"I know there have been one or two questions about Andy's fitness, specifically regarding his back, but on the technical side his forehand is now a big weapon. He is more prepared to run round and use it from the backhand court and hits it with more power and conviction than before," Becker said.

"That is the tactic of a player who believes in his stroke, and as long as he hits a good percentage of his first serves, I do not believe there are any serious flaws in his technique," he added. (ANI)
