Ryder escapes severe punishment, gets reprimand

   Jul 3, 3:46 pm

Wellington, July 3 (ANI): Jesse Ryder has escaped severe punishment and got a reprimand during his Cricket Wellington (CW) code of conduct hearing.

The former New Zealand batsman was charged with unacceptable behaviour by CW, after appearing for his Naenae Old Boys club against Karori on March 31.

Ryder became involved in an altercation while batting, when it is said he took exception to some comments passed by the bowler - Karori and Wellington allrounder Harry Boam.

The pair then had to be separated by umpire Stu Bullen at the bowlers' end, stuff.co.nz reports.

Bullen and fellow umpire Jeremy Busby then filed a report to CW, which subsequently charged Ryder with unacceptable conduct.

Code of conduct commissioner John Greenwood said: "Ryder had reacted badly to personal provocation from an opposition player and that his response amounted to unacceptable behaviour."

Greenwood decided that there were "mitigating circumstances" and that a reprimand was the most "appropriate" penalty.

Ryder admitted the charge at the hearing. (ANI)
