Garcia denies 'never seen Pakistani who can fight' remarks are 'racist' ahead of Khan bout
Jul 12, 1:24 pm
London, July 12 (ANI): Puerto Rican boxing star
Danny Garcia's father Angel Garcia has expressed surprise over the outcry caused by his comments on boxing rival Amir Khan.Garcia, 49, has insisted that he's no racist, even as he has made digs at Khan's Asian heritage to his Muslim faith, to worshipping a "punishing God" and said that he's never met a Pakistani who can fight."I haven't said anything bad. They're calling me a racist, but I'm no racist," the Daily Mirror quoted Garcia, as saying.Garcia, the trainer of the WBC light-welterweight champion, steadfastly refused to apologise for a single word and claimed that he is merely telling the truth."That's not a racist comment. I didn't curse. I just have never seen a Pakistani who can fight. That's my honest opinion as a human being. I've been on this planet for 49 years and I've never met one. The thing is I'm just being honest. I'm not going to smile to your face and lie to you. I don't lie and I don't like to be lied to," he added.Garcia, who accused Khan of being chinny, believes that it is his greatest weakness and predicted that his unheralded son will spark him out to add the WBA crown to his WBC title."We've got certain things we're going to work on Khan. Basically, his chin is weak. When you don't have a chin in boxing, it's an issue. How can you be a warrior when you don't have a chin?" Garcia said."If Danny clips him, I don't think he will be able to survive that shot. My prediction is if Khan opens up, then Danny will knock him out. If he runs around the ring, he can run, but he can't hide. Danny will hunt him down," he added. (ANI)
