Proteas prepared for worst, says coach

London, July 15 (ANI): Proteas assistant coach Russell Domingo has said the South Africa n team is prepared for the worst after a heavy downpour washed out the bulk of the second day in the three-day warm-up match against Kent in Canterbury.

"I reckon if we were here for a month, we would still struggle to get in a lot of preparation time. So, we knew it was going to happen. So, there is nothing we can do about it," Sport24 quoted Domingo, as saying.

According to the report, Domingo believes captain Graeme Smith, who has reportedly spent less than 10 overs at the crease, is in good shape ahead of the first Test at the Oval on Thursday.

"He is looking very good. Technically he looks in good shape. I can assure you that he is as fired up as anybody to do well in this series. We're not really concerned that he hasn't spent much time in the middle. He's hitting the ball nicely in his preparations," Domingo said about Smith, who will be playing in his 100th Test match.

The weather forecast on Sunday is slightly better, and the Proteas will be looking to give the rest of the line-up a knock, with the aim of having a few overs with the ball towards the end of the day, the report said. (ANI)
