UK archer Terry inspired by 'Beefy' Botham to win Olympic medal

London, July 18 (ANI): British archer Simon Terry has revealed that he looks to legendary cricketer Sir Ian Botham for inspiration as he prepares to compete in the 2012 London Olympics.

"I saw something he said in the paper about stress and how he dealt with it," express.co.uk quoted Terry, who will soon be firing his arrows across the famous cricket ground, venue for the Olympic archery, as saying.

"He said that what we do is a game, just sport. Being in the front line in the army, now that's stress, and, I thought 'Yes, that's right'. It made me think a fair bit, reading that," he said.

Terry won individual and team bronze at the 1992 Olympics, an occasion that still brings a broad smile to his face as he sits in the Lord's Long Room.

"Winning the individual medal was all a bit of a shock at 18, but what a great experience Barcelona was," Terry said.

"I remember walking around the athletes' village seeing all these famous athletes. The swimming team were a floor beneath and I kept bumping into Sharron Davies, which for an 18-year-old lad was great," he added. (ANI)
