'Title-hopeful' Button refuses to play second fiddle role at McLaren
Jul 31, 5:41 pm
London, July 31(ANI):
Jensen Button is still hopeful of winning Formula One driver championship this season despite falling 88 points behind leader Fernando Alonso due to a team strategy gamble in Hungary on Sunday which went wrong and converted his third place to sixth.With nine races remaining, the 2009 champion has said he will still try to win every race he can when F1 returns from the August break.Hamilton's gutsy victory in Hungary hauled the Spaniard's advantage back to 47 points over the McLaren ace. But behind him Hamilton is caught in a desperately tight scrap with the chasing pack of four drivers separated by just eight pointsDespite being another 41 points down Button, second two races ago in Germany, said it was too early to start playing second fiddle."No, I am going to help the team get as many points as they can. If I am leading a race, then I want to win that race. That's what racing drivers do. We don't have a number one and a number two driver here," The Daily Mirror quoted Button, as saying."I will not be asked to do anything but if there comes a time in this championship when I can't win it, then I will obviously help my teammate. But there is a long way to go and a long time before I feel I am in that position," he added."I am not thinking about the championship. Fernando will be. He is the only one. The other guys can't, they have to focus on winning races. That's like it is for me. I want to enjoy the races and fight for big points. I'm still a chunk behind the second pack, but you can close that gap pretty easily," he said. (ANI)
