London, Aug 01(ANI): Police are questioning a man who referred to Chelsea defender Ashley Cole a 'choc ice' on Twitter.

Police confirmed that they had tracked the man down as the Football Association charged Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand with improper conduct for retweeting the alleged racist post.

"We can confirm we have spoken to a 45-year-old man in connection with alleged racist comments," The Daily Mirror quoted a police spokesman, as saying.

The unidentified man tweeted Ferdinand after Chelsea 's John Terry was cleared of racially abusing his brother Anton on the pitch.

Terry had been backed in court by team-mate Cole, and Twitter user @CarltonEbanks said: "Looks like Ashley Cole's going to be their choc ice. Then again he's always been a sellout."

Ferdinand, who has three million followers, replied: "I hear you fella! Choc ice is classic!! hahahahahahha!!"

The derogatory term means black on the outside and white on the inside. Ferdinand later deleted his tweet after facing a barrage of criticism.

Ferdinand later on claimed the taunt was not a racist term, but a slang phrase for a "fake".

Officers questioned the @CarltonEbanks tweeter at his home in Hope Valley, Derbyshire.he man was not arrested or interviewed under caution. (ANI)
