London, Aug. 2(ANI): Syrian athletes, who are competing at the Olympic Games are enjoying a completely different world away from their violence-hit homes, in London during the Games.

The Syrian team members have posted a series of photographs on Facebook showing them making the most of London 2012.

In one series of pictures, two of their athletes wear fancy dress topped by British policemen's helmets as they smile for the cameras, and in another, they tuck into McDonald's hamburgers in the athletes' villages before posing in an electric buggy. team photo shows them standing proudly in front of their village apartment with four Syrian flags pinned to the balcony above.

The photographs offer a quick look of life in London for the 10 athletes representing a regime more widely detested than any other in the Games, and they have tried successfully until now to keep out of the limelight.

The athletes have largely spurned requests for interviews and certainly will not be drawn on the country's political situation.

Syrian swimmer, Bayan Jumah, whose family live in Aleppo, scene of fighting since July 20, made her London 2012 debut in the 100m,freestyle on Wednesday, finishing second in her heat.

"I don't care very much about the political things in Syria, I don't need it. I just focus on my swimming and studies," The Telegraph quoted Jumah, as saying.

"I am here to represent Syria, it is a dream for everyone to participate in the Olympics. I hope all the problems back home don't last much longer," she added.

Jumah said her family lived in the centre of Aleppo where there had been no trouble.

"I am not afraid for them," she said, adding that she would be going back there after the Games. (ANI)
