I made mistakes and bought into my own hype, says Jenson Button

London, August 5 (ANI): Jenson Button, who has been criticised for being a party animal, has admitted to committing his share mistakes in the past.

The 32-year-old revealed that his own fame sometimes carried him away.

Button admits realising that racing is much more than just driving a car. It was important to learn about other aspects of racing, else he would remain underachieved.

"I'll admit I made mistakes. I bought into my own hype. I had to learn that there was a lot more to it than just driving a car. I needed to understand about fitness and nutrition," the Daily Mail quoted him as saying.

"I had to learn about the psychological side of the sport. I had to understand the engineering side of things so that I could talk to mechanics when problems arose with my car.

"It took me some time to realise that I had to be well versed in all those areas, otherwise I would always underachieve.

Speaking of his playboy image, the F1 ace, who is currently dating Jessica Michibata, said that he still likes to have fun but it's safer behind closed doors.

"As for being a playboy , I was a young guy who enjoyed letting his hair down," he said.

"I had a lot of fun around that time but I wouldn't say it ever got out of hand. I still like to have fun but it's safer to party behind closed doors," he added. (ANI)
