Amir Khan happy to help Olympic gold medallist Nicola Adams turn pro
Aug 11, 3:56 pm
London, Aug 11(ANI): Bolton based boxer
Amir Khan has urged Nicola Adams, who created history after becoming first woman to win a gold medal in boxing at the Olympics, to pursue a career in professional boxing, citing his own example.Khan, who won the silver medal at Athens Olympics and is a two-time world champion, feels women's boxing is set for take-off following the sport's huge success at London 2012."I really do think Nicola could turn pro and I'd like to talk to her. I think I could help her if she joined Khan Promotions
and I have a similar Olympic background to Nicola," the Daily Mirror quoted Khan, as saying."I know from my experience what to do and what not to do. I turned pro a year after Athens and won a world title within four years. Whatever Nicola does next, whether she turns pro or stays amateur, she needs the right advice," he added. We can offer her that and in conjunction with Golden Boy Promotions, I think we could do something great in women's boxing in the UK and around the world. But Nicola can speak to other promoters and managers out there and shop around a little bit," he said.Khan is highly impressed by the public's reaction to the women's boxing at London's ExCeL stadium, and feels this proves there is a market for it.Women's boxing has been a massive success at these Games. There were one or two people doubting what it would be like, but it has been fantastic," Khan said. The women may not have the power of the men, but they have the technique, hand speed and skill and there have produced some brilliant, exciting fights. And it's not just Nicola, Ireland's Katie Taylor showed what a star she is winning gold too," he added. (ANI)
