New phone app calculates when women may become infertile

London, July 2 (ANI): A developer from US has created an app that calculates the day most women dread - when their biological clock runs out.

Mira Kaddoura from Portland, Oregon said she created The Wonder Clock to empower other women and help them face their fears about fertility.

The app requires only a woman's birth date to answer the question: 'How much time do I have left?'

It then calculates the years, months, days, hours, minutes and seconds until the woman can no longer bear children.

"I created this clock to face my own fears. To beckon the elephant in the room so to speak," the Daily Mail quoted Kaddoura, an award-winning advertising creative director, as writing on the app's website.

Despite her accomplishments (of which she has many), she said her lack of a family has caused her to question herself.

"Why do I feel that somehow, at my core, I am failing?' she asks.

"I am ticking," she added.

Kaddoura hopes that the app will "open a dialogue with other women about fertility, empowerment, and loving ourselves."

She noted that the clock is not meant to be a medical diagnosis, but more of an interactive and conceptual piece.

Most doctors, however, estimate that the biological clock stops ticking around 44. She said she came up with the idea after a doctor broached the topic unexpectedly.

"He had asked if I planned to have kids and when my answer was I hope so, he said I should start thinking seriously about it," Kaddoura recalled.

"That caught me off guard cause I was barely out of my 20s, working, travelling, learning, growing. I never felt that time was an issue till then," she stated.

She revealed to the Daily Mail that even men are downloading the app.

"Just last night three men showed me their Wonder Clocks. I think it has made men think about child bearing too since it is a subject that concerns both sexes," she said.

The app is available for iPhones and other Apple products on iTunes for 1.99 dollars. (ANI)
