Darjeeling shutdown to continue as protestors plan hunger strike

Darjeeling, July 11 (ANI): Leaders in Darjeeling on Tuesday met for the fourth time and announced that they will carry out hunger strike from July 15 to demand for a separate state of Gorkhaland. The Gorkha Movement Coordination Committee (GMCC) had called on the meeting in order to decide a further course of action regarding their demand for a further state. The meeting which was scheduled to be held on July 18 was pre-poned following the violence situation in the state. GJM Assistant General Secretary, Binay Tamang, said that all the party members decided to hold hunger strikes at the Chowrasta Mall in the city from July 15 for the cause of Gorkhaland. Ongoing protest and state unrest on Tuesday continued to affect India’s easte hill town of Darjeeling region, as it continues to demand their separate state, ‘Gorkhaland’.
