Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], September 22 (ANI): In a bid to keep the Manali-Rohtang pass (13,050 feet) route clean, Himachal Pradesh becomes the first state in commencing the use of Electric Buses.
Initially, 25 buses will be delivered which will see a rise in number post the addition of 50 more electric buses soon.
The cost price of single sustainable, environment friendly electric bus is Rs 1.70 crore.
The buses will provide services in the towns of Manali, Dharamsala, Mandi etc. during the period when Rohtang Pass remains closed due to snowfall.
The bus fare which has not been decided yet is likely to be higher than the normal bus fare.
The state government took about two years before making a decision on the type of buses it wanted to opt - electric or CNG.
On February 24, 2014, the NGT had passed an order restricting the commercial activities and number of vehicles entering Rohtang pass to cut down increased emissions.
