According to the Hollywood reporter, the script, which the 58-year-old filmmaker is co-writing with 'One Tree Hill' alum Paul Johansson, is in the vein of his Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams-starrer 'The Notebook,' the Deadline reported.
The flick, which will be produced by Andrew Levitas for Metalwork Pictures, with his Rogue Black label financing, and Rob Paris under his Paris Film, Inc. banner, features an original story idea that Cassavetes has been passionate about writing and directing for more than a decade.
Talking about it, Johansson said that he and Cassavetes "have literally been on the verge of writing this for years," adding that they are "incredibly excited" to be partnering with the two producers who have put them on "a very fast path to production."
Paris added that the moment he heard Cassavetes and Johansson's pitch, he knew he had to do whatever he could to help them get it made. "It's sexy and smart, with an exotic, dreamlike setting perfectly suited for an immersive cinematic experience."
Repped by WME, Cassavetes's upcoming directorial projects include a remake of the 1989 film 'Road House,' the real-life drama 'Kentucky Rhapsody' and the dramedy 'Honeymoon With Harry.'
Meanwhile, Johansson, who is repped by Gilbertson Entertainment, is currently in pre-production on the psychological horror 'Sacrifice,' which he is directing.
The movie's principal photography is scheduled for early 2018. (ANI)
