Washington DC, [USA] Aug 24 (ANI): Hollywood movie 'Green Book', based on a friendship defying race, class and societal constraints, is set to kick start the 14th Zurich Film Festival.
The film, directed by Peter Farrelly, will be showcased on the opening night of the film festival, reported Variety.
The film, which is set in the backdrop of America in the early 1960s is a true story of a friendship irrespective of race, caste and creed. In the film, Viggo Mortensen plays an Italian-American bouncer from New York's Bronx area who is hired to drive a famous African-American pianist, played by Mahershala Ali.
The pianist sets on a journey from Manhattan in New York City to Southern USA for his concert tour. The twist in the movie comes about when the duo has to solely rely on 'The Green Book' which acts as a guide to a few establishments which were safe and accessible to African-Americans.
Zurich Film Festival co-directors Nadja Schildknecht and Karl Spoerri said that the film is relevant in today's world despite being set in the 1960s.
Farrelly and Mortensen are expected to be a part of the opening night premiere.
The 14th Zurich Film Festival will be held from September 27 to October 07.
Later in September this year, 'Green Book' will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film festival. (ANI)
