San Sebastian Festival signs gender parity pledge

Washington DC, [USA] Sep 24 (ANI): The 'San Sebastian' Festival on Monday has finally signed a gender parity pledge following the footsteps of Cannes, and Venice film festival; which will go on to ensure equal participation of female talents.
In August 31, Venice film festival signed the 50/50 by 2020 gender equality pledge for having equality in their executive leadership.
With this pledge, Spain's film festival has now made a promise to gather data in regard to the number of movies that are submitted and are chosen to be programmed, so as to the number of female participants, reported Variety.
The festival's director Jose Luis Rebordinos made the aforementioned promise in the presence of Spanish deputy prime minister Carmen Calvo; the minister of culture and sport, Jose Guirao and the president of Spain's Association of Women Cineastes (CIMA).
Rebordinos, while speaking to media pointed out that the festival's staff is made up 82 per cent of women with permanent jobs, including seven female members in the board.
Talking about the film festival he also added that under a specific awards category out of every 18 films, five are directed by female participants, which according to him is "nothing to be proud of".
The current San Sebastian Film Festival which started from September 21 will now end on September 29. (ANI)
